Effective date: 26 June 2026 · Last updated: 4 August 2026
This policy explains what Clippar does with your information — in the iOS app and on clippargolf.com. Clippar is operated by Clippar Pty Ltd (ACN 701 393 277, ABN 69 701 393 277), an Australian proprietary company based in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
Your footage is edited on your phone. Finding the swing, trimming the clip and stitching the reel all run inside the app on your iPhone. There is no video-processing company in the loop and we never send your footage anywhere to be edited.
Cloud backup is off unless you turn it on. By default your clips, reels, rounds and GPS points stay on your device and we never receive them. Turning on cloud backup (a Clippar Pro feature) is what starts sending copies to our storage.
No ads, no tracking, no selling data. There are no advertising or product-analytics SDKs in the app, no tracking across other apps or websites, and no advertising identifier.
Clippar is a golf highlight-reel app. You record your shots on the course and the app finds each swing, trims it, and assembles a reel. We decide how the personal information described here is handled, which makes us the data controller for it.
Privacy questions, requests and complaints: use the contact form and choose “Privacy or data request”. A person reads those.
The Where it lives column is the important one. A lot of what Clippar handles never leaves your iPhone.
| What | Details | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Your email address, display name, and the identifier from how you signed in (email, Apple or Google). If you use Sign in with Apple we also store an Apple token so we can tell Apple to disconnect your account when you delete it. | Our servers (Supabase) |
| Profile | Optional details you add — handicap, home course, profile photo — and the device ID of a Bluetooth clicker if you pair one. | Our servers |
| Rounds & scores | Courses played, dates, hole-by-hole scores, putts, penalties and shot records. | Your phone. Copied to our servers only if you turn on cloud backup. |
| Video & audio | The clips you record, including the audio track, and the reels made from them. | Your phone. Copied to our storage only if you turn on cloud backup, or if you create a web share link for a reel. |
| Location (GPS) | A GPS point captured with each shot while you're recording a round. | Your phone. Copied to our servers only if you turn on cloud backup. |
| Subscription | Whether you have Clippar Pro and when it expires. Apple takes the payment; we only get the status. We never see your card. | Our servers, and RevenueCat |
| Mount Kit orders | If you buy the Mount Kit: your name, email, delivery address and order details, entered into Stripe's checkout. We never see or store your card number. | Stripe |
| Crash reports | Error messages, stack traces and basic device and app information when something goes wrong. | Sentry (United States) |
| IP addresses | See section 4 — collected briefly to stop abuse of our public endpoints. | Our servers |
| Waitlist (website only) | If you join the waitlist on clippargolf.com: your name, email and how often you'd like updates. | Neon (database) and Sender.net (email) |
We do not collect: advertising identifiers, contacts, health data, browsing history, or anything about you from other apps. We do not run ads or third-party analytics SDKs. We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your golf footage to train AI models, ours or anyone else's.
One thing worth knowing: if you upload a profile photo, it's stored in a public bucket at a web address that can be worked out from your user ID. It isn't listed or indexed anywhere, but it isn't behind a login either. If that bothers you, don't upload one — everything else about your account is access-controlled.
When you record a shot, the app analyses the video on your iPhone to find the swing, trims the clip, and later stitches your clips together with music into a reel. All of that uses your phone's own processor. No footage is sent anywhere to be edited. There is no third-party video-processing service. (An earlier version of this policy said there was. That was wrong, and this corrects it.)
By default, your clips and reels stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded. If you have Clippar Pro you can turn on cloud backup in Profile → Storage & Backup, which copies your clips to our storage so they survive reinstalling the app or changing phone. Turning it on is also what starts sending your round, score and GPS data to our servers. You can turn it off again at any time.
Clips are recorded with their audio track, and the app can use impact sound to help find the swing. If you'd rather not record audio, decline or revoke the microphone permission in your iPhone settings — Clippar still detects and trims swings without it. Please also read the filming other people section of our Terms, because recording other people's conversations is the part of this that carries real legal risk for you.
Clippar asks for location only while you're using the app — never in the background, and we haven't requested the “Always” permission. A GPS point is captured with each shot so the app can work out which hole you're on and how far the shot went. Decline it and hole-matching gets less accurate; everything else still works.
Some of our endpoints are open to the internet, so we record IP addresses briefly to stop them being abused:
These records exist to prevent abuse, nothing else. They aren't used to profile anyone, aren't linked to your account, and aren't shared. The website also loads fonts from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address as part of serving them.
That's the whole list. We don't use your information for anything you wouldn't expect from the above.
These companies process information on our behalf so the Service can run. Each has its own privacy terms. Where they handle your personal information for us, we remain accountable to you for how they handle it.
| Provider | What it receives | Role & location |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Your account, profile and — only if you turn on cloud backup — your rounds, scores, shots, GPS points, clips and reels | Database, sign-in and file storage. Hosted in Supabase’s Oceania (Sydney) region. |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, and In-App Purchase of Clippar Pro | Sign-in and payment. Apple acts on its own account for App Store transactions. |
| Sign in with Google, if you use it. Also your IP address when the website loads Google Fonts. | Sign-in; fonts (USA) | |
| RevenueCat | Your account ID and subscription status | Subscription management (USA) |
| Stripe | Name, email, delivery address and payment details you enter when buying the Mount Kit | Payment processing. Stripe handles card data; we never see it. |
| Sentry | Crash reports, stack traces and device diagnostics. We do not attach your account ID or email to crash reports — the app has no code that does. Identifying details could still appear incidentally inside an error message. | Crash reporting (USA) |
| GolfCourseAPI | The course name you type into search. Nothing that identifies you is sent — the request goes through our server, not from your phone. | Course lookup |
| Expo | Device and app version information when the app checks for an over-the-air update | App updates (USA) |
| Neon | Website waitlist only: name, email, update preference, and the signup IP address | Waitlist database |
| Sender.net | Website waitlist only: name, email, update preference | Email updates you asked for |
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, to protect someone's safety or our legal rights, or if the business is ever sold or transferred — in which case we'd tell you.
Some of the companies above store and process data outside Australia, mainly in the United States — RevenueCat, Sentry, Expo and, for the website waitlist, Neon and Sender.net. Stripe and Apple also operate internationally.
Before disclosing personal information overseas we take reasonable steps to make sure the recipient handles it consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles, and we do that through our contracts with them. Australian law is clear that this obligation stays with us — if an overseas provider mishandles your information, that is treated as our responsibility, not theirs alone. We don't outsource that to a disclaimer.
This mirrors the “App Privacy” panel on our App Store listing. The following are collected and linked to your identity:
Clippar does not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies, contains no advertising, and does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA). Location and user content are declared as collected because they are, once you turn cloud backup on — even though most users won't.
Account information and anything you've backed up is kept while your account is open, and deleted when you delete your account (section 10). Crash reports age out on Sentry's retention schedule. The abuse counters in section 4 hold an IP address only for the length of their window — an hour or a day depending on the endpoint. Routine database backups are overwritten on a rolling cycle.
Mount Kit order records are kept by Stripe — name, email, delivery address, amount and date — because Australian tax law requires business records supporting a sale to be kept for five years. Deleting your Clippar account doesn't erase those, and we can't erase them for you.
You can delete your account yourself, from Profile → Delete Account. It's a real deletion, not a deactivation, and it can't be undone. We ask you to sign in again first to make sure it's really you.
When you delete your account we:
Two things to know. Deleting your Clippar account does not cancel an Apple subscription — you must cancel that in Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions on your iPhone, or Apple will keep charging you. And if you shared a reel link you'd like taken down, tell us before you delete, because afterwards we can't identify which one was yours.
If deletion doesn't work for any reason, tell us through the contact form and we'll do it manually.
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
Use the contact form. We aim to respond within 30 days and won't charge you. If you're not happy with our answer, you can complain to a regulator — in Australia, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
The Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) exempts small businesses under a A$3 million annual turnover, and Clippar is currently below that threshold. We've chosen to write and operate this policy to the Australian Privacy Principles anyway, because the exemption is a technicality and you shouldn't get weaker treatment because we're small. If our turnover grows past the threshold, the Act applies to us permanently and nothing here would need to change.
Separately, note that the exemption has never applied to individuals. Since 10 June 2025 there is a national right to sue for a serious invasion of privacy, and it has no exemption for personal or non-commercial conduct. If you film other people, that applies to you. Our Terms explain what that means in practice.
If personal information we hold is lost or accessed by someone who shouldn't have it, and there's a real risk of serious harm to you, we will assess it promptly, notify you directly, and notify the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. We'll tell you what happened, what information was involved, and what you should do about it. We won't sit on it.
If you're in the UK or EU, we rely on:
If you're a California resident: in the past 12 months we've collected the categories described in section 2 — identifiers, internet and diagnostic activity, geolocation, audio and visual content, and commercial information — for the purposes in section 5. We have not sold or shared your personal information, and we don't. You can ask us to tell you what we hold, to correct it, or to delete it, and we won't treat you differently for asking. Use the contact form.
Clippar is for people aged 13 and over and isn't aimed at children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you think a child has given us their information, tell us through the contact form and we'll delete it.
Everything travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Access to our database and storage is restricted so that your rows and files are only reachable by your account. Share links use a 128-bit random token that can't realistically be guessed, and the video address behind a link expires after an hour. Account deletion requires you to have signed in within the last ten minutes, so a stolen session can't be used to destroy your account.
No system is perfectly secure, and we won't claim otherwise. If something goes wrong, section 13 says what we'll do.
We may update this policy. When we change something that actually affects you, we'll update the “Last updated” date and tell you in the app or on this page. Questions, requests or complaints: use the contact form.
